A moment in this room
Morning light comes in low over the chestnut trees and lands on a desk covered in old flight charts. Breakfast arrives under silver domes, and the coffee is strong enough to cross an ocean on.
Named for Conrad Ashby
Aviator, spring 1933.
Conrad Ashby landed a single-engine plane at Le Bourget in the spring of 1933 and arrived at our door still in his flying jacket. He stayed a month, planning a route to Cairo on the floor of this room with the carpets rolled back. The telescope by the window is his. He never came back for it, and we have never asked.
In the room

- Corner windows over the avenue
- Writing desk with 1930s charts
