A moment in this room
Rain on the courtyard roofs. The window seat has a cushion worn to the shape of someone who sat there for hours. Tea arrives at four, without being asked.
Named for Ines Halloway
Novelist, winter 1956.
The novelist Ines Halloway arrived in November 1956 with one suitcase and a typewriter, and left in March with a finished manuscript. She wrote in the window seat every morning and took her tea black. Her book is on the shelf by the bed; the dedication is to our night staff.
